This bass is a very good bass for the money. I pitted it up against an Ibanez GSR200 and the Yamaha sounded much better. I like the feel of this bass. easy access to all 24 frets and smooth neck. Beautifully crafted. I haven't gone to any gigs with it yet, but it sounds good at home. The only thing I had to replace was the wobbly tuning machines. NO BIGGY. All in all, this bass is great. Just get it set up, slap some new strings on it, and your good to go.

The Yamaha RBX 170 is just a wonderful bass. It was my first bass. I recieved it for Christmas 2 years ago and have been playing it ever since. It has a great feel to it and is very versatile. I have found that this bass has the unique ability to play jazz, funk, and rock. I would 100% recommend this bass to ANY bass player, beginner or advanced. A truly great product

I picked up this bass knowing that if I stuck with I would have a good backup. Since then I have picked up a higher end bass, but I keep coming back to the Yamaha. I put some flatwounds on it and just love it. Fun, inexpensive and a solid bass. I have though about selling it to fund another bass, but each time I can't. I just love it.

I am a guitar player and wanted to pick up a bass for home recording. I didn't want to spend a lot of money, but still wanted a good bass guitar. I tried out many basses at Guitar Center in Overland Park. I kept coming back to this Yamaha bass. The tone really caught my attention. A very clean piano-like ring on the low end appealed to me. It wasn't a difficult choice once I saw the price. This was a month ago and I couldn't be happier with my RBX170. The fit and finish is excellent (I got the red finish). It's lighter than my strat, but still has a solid feel and deep tone. The action is a little high, but has not affected my playing. With both J and P type pickups on it, I can get a wide variety of sound. You just can't get a bass guitar this good at this price elsewhere

i got this about a year ago and I love it. It has good pickups, and it just flat out sounds great. It stays in tune perfectly, I only tune it when switching between Drop D tuning and Standard tuning. At first it goes out of tune easy, then it wears in and stays put. The only problem I have is that the frets buzz, but it may just be the stock strings(I haven't changed them yet). Overall, it's a great bass with great tone
